IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Apr 2021
Commissioned by the Church-Wellesley Village BIA, this installation in the heart of Toronto’s Queer Village, is intended to brighten your day and fill you with a sense of pride. The installation is made up of 5 unique typographic statements that wrap the North-West corner of Church and Wellesley in larger-than-life rainbow letters as well as street banners that carry the messaging around the Village.
As a nod to Church Street’s history as one of the centres of queer community in Toronto, I illustrated a neon set of stairs, which pay tribute to the Church Street Steps that served as a gathering spot for queer people in the 1980s and 90s, just down the street.
